I bought a bunch of recessed lights that I will put led bulbs in. The main shop will have 16, upstairs will have 4 I think....the goal is even lighting and i'll pick bulb output to get it bright enough. I like a broght shop so bright enough is probabkybthe brightest bulbs they make  The weekend is looking cool but decent so I scheduled a little track loader with a rock bucket and I'll try to getvthe settling and concrete truck ruts fixes, rocks dug out and pucked up and grass seeded. |

I like a very bright garage too. Ikea was clearing silver "Foto" lights for half price and I bought 30 for my garage. I wanted a sort of "retro" style lighting. I put them on a 4'x6' grid. They came with 400 lm LED bulbs, which I thought would be woefully inadequate and was planning on buying 1600 lm bulbs when the price came down, but I am finding that the 400 lm bulbs are suprisingly sufficent. The point I am making is that grid density is probably as important as bulb intensity.

My plan is 16 lights anout 4 foot from the walls and 6-7 between the bulbs that are 650-850lm. The 10' ceiling should be tall enough that the light will end up pretty even I think? Plus the floor and walls will be painted and reflective which should brighten thing up quitr a bit. 1 row is in now.....12 lights to go

I would absolutely put in boxes for ceiling fans. I wish I had done that myself but I didn't make my ceilings high enough |

I little update. This past weekend I had a small track loader, and dug more out of my hill. It didn't go quite to plan since it popped the left track off 5 times (And now I know how to install tracks pretty quickly), the bucket cracked, and i didnt get to usethe rock bucket, which I was REALLY looking forward to, because the machine developed a leaking hose on the bucket lock so I couldn't release the digging bucket.....so now I'm picking rocks by hand  I guess the good news is Lana says that under no circumstances will I EVER be allowed to dig up the yard again.....so I'm done digging away the hill. Monday I put down seed and fertilizer, last let spent a couple hours picking rocks, today rain do noe the seed is on the clock and will need water for the next couple weeks.....and I have to get up the frikin rocks. Looking at the weather I think I'm going to takeoff Friday and Monday to put on the 2nd coat of stucco. The side doors are installed...don't remember if I posted that....the front doors have got to be coming soon so I need to get the front wall a little bit of ceiling done so I'm ready to install them. I also just want to share that I've finally figured out how to use the spill free fuel cans.....you just remove to spill free spout and get a funnel and they work fine. Not as convienent or safe as when the containers came with functional spouts but it does get the fuel in faster this way.

I took Monday off and Friday afternoon though just now I put almost exactly 4000lb of cement on the walls, my poot gimgersbare ground raw, but coat 2 is complete. One more to go. I also bough a bunch of 1100 lumen bulbs to try. I had have 4 pots installed and put 650 lumens 2700K that I had for the house in....it was sad. The new ones are 5000K...hopefully that does the trick.

I wonder how much a 4'x4' grid density would improve perceived brightness. It certainly would improve light uniformity. Do the big doors block the lights when they are open?

Do the big doors block the lights when they are open? A 4x4 pattern is 16sqft, I have basically 7x7 do 49sqft....so 4x4 is 3x brighter eith the same bulbs. The light is not noticably under really, just not quite enough of it. The lights are just over 3 ft from the front wall, so the doors will partly block them when they're up I guess.....i maybe should have made them more like just over 4 feet |

The new bulbs made all the difference. They might be too bright once the drywall is is and everything is painted but right no it seems good....at least in the area with lights. With working late and a homedepot run I only got 2 more installed last night, 6 down 14 to go. The garage doors will be delivered Monday. Lana wants all the stucco done before I install them so there is no chance I mess them up. I found a mason who's not too busy and am waiting in a quote for the finish coat before I order material to do it myself. Lana's bern trying to keep the grass seeds watered.....so there should be signs of green any time now. The homedepot run was for a cart for the mower (we had a free junker the finally fell apart a couple years ago) to put rocks in to dump in back.....if the stone age ever returns I'll be increasingly wealthy. With the weather nice I really want the garage and be back to fixing the car......but there has to be 3 months more work...at least. |
