Looking at the pics now that I'm not rushing I should probably cut the the vertical track at the 2nd fron the top roller and kick it in an inch to get the clearance for the handle, then go back to straight up with the extension section......more thinking.......
I am envious of what you are doing. I settled for hanging the rails low (conventional installation) rather than building custom rails to raise the door to the ceiling height. The problem is that I can't weld.

You might rethink cutting the rail that low though. As you've probably already noted, the top roller is configured to move inward substantially as it begins its first few inches of upward movement. This gives clearance for the ornamental handles and the other stuff (btw, my wife also wanted the "carriage door" look with the fake handles, but later decided she didn't want them). This initial inward movement is usually initiated by the top roller being parked at the start of a large radius 90 degree rail curve.

You might consider buying an extra radius rail piece and cut/weld it so that you create an S shape at the top of the door. An S would pull the top roller inward a few inches before curving the other way to send the roller directly upward.

I hope you have extra long torsion spring/cable system for this.

They have bolt-on kits, I'm just too cheap to buy one. Its $125 if you cut and use track you have or $200 if they send track with the kit. Not bad but the cut and weld it way took me about an hour and I spent $8 for some L-brackets

I measured and I THINK the hardware will clear but just barely...the extensions are on a 6.5(ish) degree angle plus the angle of the rest of the track....I think I get about 1.75" where the handle hits the top and need about 1.5"....it should work or I'll find shorter handles for lana to love.

The doors came with extension spring hardware. I did some math and for around $50/door about the best i can do with extension springs is balanced at the bottom and about midlife but 20lbs st 18" lift and -20lbs (so going up by itself) at full lift and no good way to ever install an opener do I'm saying no to this.

That means I need to buy all the parts to convert to torsion springs. They make special pulleys that have a taper section for the vertical lift portion and a straight for once the door hits the curve. They aren't custom and perfect but close enough I guess. All the parts are about $200/door but shipping adds another $200. There is a local door place that says they have everything but Chad, their guy who knows what hes doing, is on vacation so I need to wait....they say they'll have a quote by tomorrow for me. My plan is just buy the stuff for 1 door and see how it works as Chad was a little nervous about getting the spring perfect on the first try.. ..torsion spring setups are apparently much more sensitive than extension spring setups.

Hopefully this weekend I'll have 1 door that opens.

Go with those Liftmaster jackshaft openers and the torsion springs. They are pretty powerful openers and the spring tension won't be as critical. I have my tracks going up at an angle instead of horizontal once they make the beck so gravity wants to close the doors. Works better that way with the jackshaft openers. They also self set pressure needed to open and close the door when you do the initial setup. Much nicer and cleaner having the opener mounted on the front wall instead of hanging down in the middle your ceiling.

I'm not sure I'm going to install openers, but I did put outlets in the correct place for liftmaster shaft openers....they really are the only opener option for a high lift setup. There will always be a bit over 2 feet of door vertical, so 50-60 lbs of closing force available once the opener starts turning the shaft.....I can't imagine that wouldn't close nicely.

Just back from the garage door store with parts for 1 door to try.

I got time over the weekend to install the door parts...it works pretty well. It's well balance closed and opened but a little off in between...not bad though. Lana even commented a couple times on how nice it is to have the door up near the ceiling and asked why they aren't always done that way.

It looks like the pic I thought I took didn't actually take :(

Here's one of the handle sliding Past the door frame. I just taped the handle on and the top door seal still needs to be installed...but it looks like is just works.

Snapped new pics this morning. I set it up the way the online place suggested with 24" of high lift, which made sense with 10' ceiling instead of the normal 8....but the local place thought 27" and it looks to me like they were right and 28 would probably have been fine. I guess that's because the walls the 10' but they sit on 4" of block wall. It's still nice though.
