Didn't realize there was more to do in the shop poweroom but last night I found myself cutting the travertine tile wall so a travertine switch plate sits flush with the wall because its prettier that way and tonight its hardware on the walls for towel and such along with a window AC unit since the main shop HVAC system is still nonexistent. The project that simply will not end.....

I had a very unexpected conversation with Lana last night....she was shopping for an hvac system for the shop and wanted to know if what she found would work. As she tries to finish up the last few things is the bathroom/changing room so she's ready to PARTY! she's realized it gets frikin hot in there in the summer so it's either buy a wall AC unit knowing it will get replaced or bite the bullet and get the shop system. So we talked about BTUs and zones and SEER ratings and why each one matters...really strange

Surprised she wanted to know about the technical stuff?

One of these days she's just going to tell you to go mow the lawn while she finishes up the Ferrari.

I was mostly surprised we were talking about spending money on the shop and I wasn't the one who started the conversation by buying stuff without asking :)

Patio officially opened yesterday including the looks like a resort bathroom :)

We did shrimp and pizza and a whole lot of beer with freinds.

We spent a week in FL doing the parks and such, very busy. Got home late fri, straight to bed. Saturday about noon I was thinking about getting back to work on the front walkway and realized something just felt wrong.....
nothing hurt? Not my knees, not my back, not my elbows, not my fingers...nothing. Perhaps all these never ending projects need to start ending :)

Welcome to old age. It beats the alternative by a great margin.

This weekend I install the lights lana wanted over the house garage doors which meant I could put the molding on and pick up my tool.....may 1 more coat of mud needed on the patched inside where I cut to run wiring an its completely done and I'm free.

The shop is a bit of a mess at the moment.....time to get on this before I tear into car stuff too much but other than a functional hvac system that I have no remaining budget for the shop and all linked projects are DONE!

Post subject:  Re: HVAC

I had one 10,000 BTU (0.83 Ton) window unit to cool a 1000 sqft room. Just about did the job. Then I put in a 4.5 Ton (54,000 BTU) central air unit to cool the whole house (2500 sq ft.). I also included an Energy Recovery Ventilator ($500 - $1000 on Amazon) which is basically a heat exchanger that pulls inside air and extracts the cold (or heat) and exhausts it outside, then pulls outside air through the heat exchanger and extracts the heat (or cool) and injects it back into the space. My summer electricity bill went down by 20%.

The ERV has a pretty powerful fan, but it also engages the fan in the main furnace air handler when it's on. I wonder if you could just use an ERV and just a cooling coil/compressor (maybe 1 or 2 Tons) to cool the garage with the side benefit of constant air re circulation summer and winter to keep the air fresh as a summer breeze.

I talked with my son who is a Mechanical Engineer and an Architect and he said those window units are terribly inefficient because of space constraints to fit in a window. I'd be happy to gift you my 3-year old LG window unit, but it weighs so much the freight would be twice what it's worth.

Here's a link to some ERVs on Amazon https://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_ss_i_1_26?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=energy+recovery+ventilator&sprefix=Energy+Recovery+ventilator%2Caps%2C502&crid=3VOWG06RYJ82Y),

And here's a 2.5 Ton A/C evaporator and coil for $1261 (free shipping) https://www.amazon.com/Goodman-R-410a-Downflow-GSX130301-CAPF3030A6/dp/B00WSBXUK6/ref=sr_1_4?keywords=central+air+2+ton&qid=1564933170&s=gateway&sr=8-4

I'd save up and make the investment rather than skimp after you've done such a fabulous job building the garage. Pitch the energy saving efficiency of the ERV to Lana. Save the Planet!
