Ceramic tile can be done for about $1/sqft and doesn't burn.....seems slick and had to be prone to crack
Wow! I have never seen ceramic tile for that cheap. Can you recommend a source?

We have ceramic tile in a hallway and in a bathroom. They don't get slippery when water wet. I suppose an oil slick would be slippery, but I don't spill much oil (my leaky old cars have large galvanized steel drip pans under them).

I have heard it said that ceramic, and particularly porcelain tiles, when cemented down properly on concrete, are very crack resistant. I would love tile (and would use dirt-colored grout).

My garage is 735 sq. ft.

@brian Where did you get that German plate?
At the Oktoberfest of the BMW Car Club of America a few years ago (in Monterey).

Spaten brewery was a sponsor and supplied free beer ... and free promotional German-style license plates.

I am from Munich originally, worthwhile visiting the real things if you make it to Europe!

When I still built TV studios we used commercial epoxy, that stuff was fab. Professional cameras used to be pretty heavy on slim wheels, that stuff can stand it, also dead flat if done proper. Expensive though. Tiles you‘ll probably crack all the time, also pretty cold underfoot without heating.

Munich is a great city! I have visited many times and been on the BMW factory tour 3 times. The first time was before the Welt and we just walked on the factory floor instead of the catwalks as is now. One of the great moments was when one of the robot welders misfired and sprayed our shop coats with sparks.

Yeah, I can't believe that a floor jack wouldn't crack tiles, at least chip corners.

I am going to tape down some Saran Wrap squares on the floor to leave for a week or so to see if I have any moisture coming through the concrete, particularly the old section. If the squares stay dry, I will be a little less nervous about epoxy.

That‘s great, I love the factory tour! Used to take our baseball minor team there every year on season end (yes, it does exist in DE :-)). Let me know when you come through next and maybe we can sort something - I‘m living in London now.
Audi in Ingolstadt as well as BMW in Dingolfing are worth a visit, too. When I was still driving a 7 series we used to have club meets there. Audi has these massive presses which churn out half cars and make the ground shake for about a mile around (which is why BMW cant operate them in MUC)

And some 36 grit belt sander belts to remove the larger trowel marks and any paint splatters before I put the sealer down.

yeah....you can't smooth a floor with a belt sander, that's just plain stupid and will probably just ruin belts and burn out the sander (not sure of its condition, the respirator I wore to deal with the dust did a good job keeping the burning smell away too).

Now I need to decide if I want to spend the money to rent a concrete grinder and smooth it out properly (about $300) or say heck with it and put the sealer on as-is.

I really didn't want to spend the money for the rental and decided if I just had a diamond polishing pad that would do it and I could use it on other stuff.....so I bought a 7" valuable speed polisher that came to $42 after coupon and tax but nobody local stocks 7" diamond pads...4"is the normal size it seems, so a 4"backing pad and 3 50 grind pads for $53.

It works really well at about 2000rpm, digital readout......but a 13sqin pad takes a while to grind an 800sqft (115000 sqin) floor. About 4 hours is all I can take in 1 day, so I'm at about 8 hours with a out 2 hours left.

The floor is WAY smoother so that's good. Jack's, engine cranes and creepers with roll smooth now. Still not as flat as I might wish for but without a level you can't tell so good enough.

The digital control on the polisher does if it gets water or dirt on it then there is no way to restart the polisher....2 dead now.....yesterday I never shut it off fearing the day 1 failure....still died. I'm going to grab the cheaper non digital version this morning.

Then there is the number and partial loss of muscle control in my right foot I noticed the end of day 1.....never had that happen before....hopefully that goes away. On day 2 I learned over a short stool instead of leaned over on my knees which took the load off my back....but other than the muscles a little sort it didn't bother so I'm really confused about the foot muscle thing...weird.

Still a little wet in some spots but a really really really want to seal it today so it's got a few days I couldn'twork away to dry.....so all fans and heaters on the job.

There are a few little stains from unsealed year...we'll see how they look after the sealer.
