You can't see it in the pick but there is some steel setting on bricks inside the oven as well to make an elevated cooking surface. When he is in a hurry he builds a fire directly under the pizza stones but so far the best is when he builds the fire where we are going to cook the pizza. When it burns down to coals and starts to turn white inside the oven we push the fire back and do a quick mop of the surface with a wet rag to get up remaining white ash before tossing the pizza directly on the surface.
Takes about 8 minutes or so. Anything below 425 on the cooking surface and they don't cook well. Never tried over 500 yet. We might have too much heat loss in our redneck no mortar pizza oven to get over 500 without tossing in a cord of oak or melting the metal roof

I say it's a lot more fun than I ever thought it would be. When you started building yours I thought you were nuts but I can see both the utility and entertainment value of it now. Not only great wood fire pizzas but its become a gathering spot when it gets fired up.

I can see how in a neighborhood it would be like that because the only thing better than standing around a fire is standing around with beer and food

My neighborhood is pretty spread out so its its more an invitation thing here, but that kind of makes it an event which is fun too but it sounds like you guys are getting more use from the simple oven than we are from my took all summer to build oven.

I got distracted from oven repair by a dead pool pump which is kind of pissing me off to be honest. I system I had was stupid inefficient but it work so when the pump died I was a little happy and bought a variable speed pump that is using 83% less electricity. Yay!.....but I'm certain the person who designed the controller on it has never owned a pool so now I need to spend more to setup a controller that makes even a little bit of sense....I could literally do a better job with control logic by replacing the fucking thing with a couple toggle switches.....and to make it worse its an aluminum housing bolted to a steel pump in a saltwater system so it garneted to corrode like a mother f.....just pitiful coming from a major brand pool equipment company.

Anyway, its running so back to oven stucco repair today.

The guy that lives behind me that built the oven is the son of an old friend of mine. I bought the house and flipped it to him. Around 30 and has a couple roommates. During covid he poured a concrete pad for cornhole, outdoor darts, archery, axe throwing target(my favorite), firepit and of course the keg cooler. Nothing better to do the last 14 months since I don't have a Lana so I've been going over there and help him do projects. It's been our neighborhood social bubble. Needless to say we all got fat

Only problem is the throwing axes are cheap now compared to the lumber to build the target You need a home equity loan to buy a couple 2x4s now. Building a Ferrari is cheap compared to a trip to Home Depot. Once Lana see's you'll have to dip into the kids college funds to buy a sheet of plywood hopefully she'll encourage you to work on the car instead.

Remember I have a Lana so there will be no axe throwing....

I bought lumber for the new basement stairs last week.....I thought I clicked on the wrong thing when I saw the price....nope, lumber has tripled!

The oven stucco is starting to look better. I added mesh today, maybe 1 more base coat to get it straight then color and COOK!

That may not be a skill you want Lana to acquire

Finally finished the stucco repair....kind of afraid to use it now
