Side tracked again wiht a garage painting project I knew nothing about until friday night :(

The move the light project went so well Lana was inspired to finally (have me) tackle the garage painting....not realizing there's a tiny little difference in effort between patching anf painting a 4" hole in the ceiling and prepaing and painting a 20x20 room with an 11ft ceiling that needs the mudding finished (it had 1 rough coat from the builder), sanded, calked, window casings, ect done before any painting could start. 2 long days and most of the prep is done......Lana says she'll do the actual painting but either way worst case 1 more weekend and the garage will look like a ferrari belongs in it :)

I reamed the guides and cut the seats on the second head yesterday.....I want to leak check it 1 more time then on to cutting the valve blanks to size and then re-assembly. Its really getting cold out so I'm feeling good about being trapped in the shop for the next few months.....

I just started cutting vavles and realize that while all the packages look the same, i have 8 exhaust valves that match the last 24 and 4 of a different design...WTF?!?!

The 4 are 2g lighter but its all off the face so out of the combustion chamber.....so different CR. I'll see if i can track down 4 correct valves but they are the same part number so.......shit!

I gave the heads a really good scrubbing today so they are ready to assemble.

I also cut the valves I have to length and put in the keeper grooves. I don't know what I was thinking but I cut 1 an inch too short :(.....but I needed 4 more anyway so now its 5 I guess but it doesn't really change anything other than I'll be $30 poorer I guess.

I guess I'm ready to mostly assemble the heads. I can do 1 full head and all the intakes on the other, get the shims set and get that head back on the engine.....and get the other done minus the 5 exhaust valves I'm holding on. The shop I bought the parts from forwarded my email to to the owner of the valve company and believes they will sort it out in short order.....we'll see.

Usually having a companion is what leads to the mistakes!

...but in this case it's all me. I looked at the number on the page, siad it out loud, set my calipers and compared to the page, marked the valves, took the first one to the chop saw and cut to the mark leaving 1/8" for finish machining, pulled it out of the saw and screwed my face then set it on the table next to the intakes I did the other day and it was clearly WAY short....becaseu the paper sadi 4.341 and I set the calipers to 3.341 and never noticed :(

Now you sound like Lana.....and she's the one controlling my time so it has a real chance to be a bit of a self fulfilling prophecy.

It's winter now though and I've started getting extremely cranky about any suggestion of a new project so the pace will pick up. The leak issue should have only been a 1 month delay. Holidays bite into time a bit and with the list of things that need doing short part delays start to matter.....but its nearly there.
