.........are we done yet?

Almost. I think the engine will be going in for real in 3 weeks, 4 at most and it should run in May.

I've been pondering really important things today.

First I needed a supplier for M10 x 1.25 SS rod which is a screwball size that ferrari uses. Fastenal had had it.

While I was thinking about that the SS nuts and washers I've been using have been really bothering me...they look so plain and so not ferrari. So while on the fastenal site I ordered the yellow zinc (gold) stuff that is OEM ferrari. This will both add a little color to the engine and make it look a bit more stock and are easy to swap out anytime they start looking dingy.

You know...important stuff.

I have :)

The detail I'm pondering now is how the ECU senses load. I'd planned to use MAP (speed-density) load sensing because it tends to be more sensitive to idle/off idle conditions but something has been troubling me and today I realized what it is.... the way it's done in this ECU (motec M150) barometric changes will affect the calculated load. That means that even if the throttle is wide open and I mean full power, if the ECU sees say 90kpa it will call it 90% load and use the mixture, ignition timing and fuel timing that goes with 90% load. It's perfectly safe but 100% throttle won't always deliver 100% power so that gets the wrong stamp.

I need to use TPS (alpha-n) load sensing.....because it appears to be the only one on the list I believe it configured properly. I'm a little surprised at Motec missing something like this honestly. Some years ago the tech I spoke to they "highly recommend TPS load sensing" so they understand all this...but now they're manual say the opposite. I suspect the change is because MAP load sensing is WAY easier to tune....it just won't ever work quite right the best I can tell.

There are so many options in this ECU it's taking a bit of time to get them all sorted in my brain.....I should be ready to go with a decent baseline setup by May thought :)

Her's another complete waste of time I came up with. I'm using SS studs so they always look good but they are silver not the gold.....unless I heat the end a little bit then they turn gold to match the nuts and washers :)

I wish I thought of this sooner.

The timing case is on.....what a bugger that was and I still need to time the cams. I had it on around 2 and the engine would turn....not frontwards anyway, backwards was no problem. WTF????

I popped the cams out and it issue was still there so I guess it was something with the chain on the bottom sprocket....I guess. I restrung the chain and put everything back together and now it's fine frontwards and backwards.

There's a broken thing in the tensioner I need to replace but that's minor. I'll get that fixed then figureout how to mount the degree wheel and set the cams.

ok can we at least have some more gratuitous pics of the assembled motor?

After 3 or 4 years that I have been following the build I deserve at least 3 more pics :)

Nicely done all the same.

What gaskets are you using btw?

btw I am glad to see that I am not the only one that fills benches with parts.

Mark when you become more proficient at engines and engineering you will require a bigger hammer as the one you are currently using is for amateur engine builders :)
