Looking great Mark. This would've been nearly impossible to get done with any precision here in Houston.

Wondering if I hit those extensions with some fairly rough abrasive at higher than normal pressure, if I could get something that looks like a cast finish?

Hopefully it does what you want. The inside is now roughed out so I'm thinking my part is done.

I've heard a lot of thoughts on how to make a billet or welded part look cast....blasting, bur, weld scaler, etc.....but I've never had much luck. I thinking if you scaler the whole thing then blast you might be happy, but wrinkle paint/coating will certainly make it look right.

I made up 12 injector extensions to get the new injectors John wants to use to fit properly and all seems well now. Tomorrow I'll clean everything up a bit then pack it up and back to John.....and then back on to the right V12 :)

My pleasure John and hopefully everything fits and does what you need it to do....sent it back if it doesn't

I've been rethinking the blasting idea. Home grade blasters I know won't do what you're after but if you sand the transitions a bit smoother then take it to some place like a big steel fab shop with a big commercial blaster using course aluminum oxide media.....it might produce a nice finish. It won't exactly look cast thought...it will look even and uniform with a blasted which is better than can be done with home equipment.

...or you could clean it up a bit more and paint or powder coat :)

It'll eventually get a coating, just not a wrinkle finish. I just want to ensure the coating will look uniform once it's put on, and the transition from the cast runners to the pipe extensions isn't too noticeable.

Ok. I recommend you sand it all to a 120 or 180 grit finish. It's a pain in the butt and seems to take forever.....but it will really look good when you're done regardless of what finish you go with. Or I guess if you know what finish you have in mind then ask them what they recommend....maybe it hides really well and you can go courser on the grit.

Here's the 'Busa TB's mounted on the cutdown 456 manifold that Mark worked on for me. He extended the runners of the manifold so the TB's would clear the fuel rails (which aren't mounted yet).

This is only a temporary setup for the dyno breakin run of the engine. If everything goes well, and we can get it to idle & run OK with this setup, these 'Busa TB's will be replaced by a proper set of Jenvey's, which will look much cleaner than this (although I have to admit, the looks of these are growing on me)
