Hello all,,,, My 328 is undergoing a major overhaul. The engine needs new valve springs but I'm unsure where to source them. It's turbocharged so I am looking for a high performance option. Is there anyone here that can point me in the right direction??

The last one I did I used crane cams MG miget/sprite springs but they've been discontinued......so now you need to go through the spring catalogs and find something else which takes time....or go to one of the ferrari specalists like spuerperfomence and see what they're offering? You'll probably pay more but the leg work is already done for you. The MG springs were cheap....like $55 for 8 IIRC so it was a great option. Paul Newman PM me for his contract info) has a souce in OZ for springs and found a couple decent options for a 3.4L he built. Scott (madhatter) who does development for Nick's can probably help you too, I don't know wo he uses but I'm sure he's got a source. |

I'm installing mk e's 2nd generation supercharger system & had to go thru the intake valve spring selection a few years ago. From my notes: mk e's sprite spring specs were my starting point: Crane cams MG/Sprite valve springs: Part Number: 902-4009 Outside diameter 1.135 Inside diameter 0.629 Seat pressure 80# @ 1.375 Open pressure 224# @ .895 Coil bind 0.793 Rate 300 Maximum net lift 0.480 Description Dual spring for Sprite and Mini (Set of 8) IIRC I calculated I could use the OEM intake springs if I could find a shim with min: 0.057", max: 0.060" But couldn't come up with one My final selection was: ISKY CAMS JA005/JA006 performance springs for a Jag DOHC 6 cylinder Page 14 in their catalog: http://www.iskycams.com/downloads/springbook.pdf Attachment: Valve Spring Specs.jpg [ 79.32 KiB | Viewed 16791 times ] BTW, Manley 24041 Valve Stem Seals worked great on the intake valves! Verell,,, Thanks so much for the info,,, It's a great help and what I was looking for... I'm so glad you linked the Fchat thread b/c I didn't know the shop manual was wrong. So these are the corrected measurements: Free spring: mondi -38.46mm, not 328's -42.10mm Closed valve: mondi -34.00mm, not 328's -38.65mm Open valve: mondi -25.30mm, not 328's -29.60mm Coil bind: mondi -21.45mm, not 25.50mm I already gave one machine shop the numbers listed in the 328 shop manual,,, Guess I gotta make a callback!! I was recommended 80-100psi at the seat & 225-250psi at the nose By James at Norwood's, the engine's original builder. I'm not an engineer like you guys are and sometimes the tech threads get a bit over my head,, So I'm assuming 'at the nose' means fully open valve |
