There is probably a plating place, but I really don't want to invest any more into these liners. I need to do some careful measuring where I was beating them and if all is well or can be made well then spray graphite. If not I'll have the spending conversation and make a new set.

The exhaust valve kit came and looks useable and I cleaned off the bench so ready to go other than the need to install an air handler in the basement

This is what I kind of knew I was going to find if I looked very careful...just a little deformating right near the bottom. I don't think its a serious issue to be a little oversize there so I'll spend the morning finding and removing that shit.

1/2 way. Most look fine but, yeah... they aren't. 5 thou is typical but this is the 2nd one I found that looks fine-ish but it's out 15thou, so good that I'm checking.

Is that 0.015 piston to bore clearance? Does it change with the piston installed? Is the liner round at that point?

Its an area that is 0.015" smaller ID than that rest of the bore, so completely unacceptable. 4 where fine and didn't need to be touched, 4 were burred a bit so quick clean up then 4 had a little dent/bend on the bottom of the liner that had to be ground away on the ID and I didn't want scratched left in the bore so I used a 180 flap wheel which took a long time to removed that much metal but they are all fixed now though and just need to be washed to be washed to get rid of the sanding dust.

Some family stuff to do now but hopefully I'll be assembling tomorrow.

The graphite stuff goes on pretty thin. The can gave me 5 coats adding about 0.0015" to the ODs....that will do I think

I went out to the shop this morning to prep everything for assembly, still unsure if silicone or hylomar is the better bet....but decide that since the stuff seems rigid and well adhered I should really build the liners up a bit more so I came back in and ordered more graphite spray. Amazon says that will be here by Thursday so assembly is delayed until at least then.

I'm also pondering assemble and test order and 3/4 thinking I'm not going to bother putting in the crank until I know the liners and heads are sealed which would let me move faster with the still piston containing liners. I'm leaning toward the silicone which is what had me thinking about assembly time a bit.

I have some other stuff to do too like make sure the new head gaskets fit right (the last set the head stud holes were undersize and I always need to shorten the end of one to make it flush so the timing cover gasket fits right and then move the shims onto the new gaskets. Also I really didn't clean anything I removed so everything need gasket surfaces scraped and a good wiped down.

....and I have an geo unit to drag into the basement and figure out how to hook up so lots to do.

Also I kind of just needed a break.

That's the great thing about being your own customer. You do the work when you want, and so in principle you always enjoy it. Take whatever break you want or need - you don't owe anybody else progress or updates.

Am I saying this because of how your incredible progress on the car and other projects puts me to absolute shame? Hey, we weren't talking about me - I'm trying to be supportive here!!!

and to make it worse Lana let me move a comfy chair into the theater so its really easy to sit there and binge watch :o

Graphite spray came so I just put a bunch more on. I'll let it dry while I east then remeasure and see if more is needed with the goal being finish them up tonight and be ready to put the liners in tomorrow or Friday.
