Then there is the bores....things look like they are a little tight. This I know I checked when I was fitting the pistons but clearly I should check again. I bought new rings so at a min I'll freshen up the hone job.

Do you have a really good cylinder hone as well? That has been a big issue with engines I have done. Most shops can't get the bottom of the cylinder on these because the shelf stops the hone. I modified my hone to reach and then modified the stones to work better as well.
Patients pays off here too. As long as it has been, a few more days won't hurt.

They were out when I honed them so getting to the bottom wasn't an issue...but in they may not be the shape they were.

I haven't had any success honing sleeves outside the block. They pressing them in without the bottom becoming too small.

However, 355 sleeves slide in with no issues and stay dead straight afterwards.

On a sad note, God speed to Jessie Combs. Very side to hear she lost her life in a land speed record car yesterday, 8/27/19

I'll have to look at it....the sleeves slide in the way I set it up and its the top I'm looking at and seeing what appears to be an issue.....but the bottom might very well look worse, we'll see soon enough then it will be time to decide on a fix.

Way back I remember thinking about running the engine for a few heat cycles then tearing it down for inspection assuming there would be stuff wrong.....then I moved on to really wanting it done. Now the inspection has been forced upon me so might as well make the most of it and be sure everything looks right when it goes back together.

I also use a torque plate when I hone it as well. I have seen that without it, the top doesn't deform like it does with the head on it.
They are not cheap, but they work like they should.
