Pretty sure the pad used to be on straight. This could be the result of my improved timing cover disassembly method...could be

Is it embedded in the oil pump gear?

Its really not possible for something that big to get past the pickup screens so I'd say no...it has to be in the bottom somewhere.

I know! I'm amazed they haven't shown up to take my emblems away :)

I have a couple of cam reamers and it makes a huge difference on 12 cylinder heads after they go back on. I always ream after they are bolted to the block. I tape it all up and run it through. I have at times used the cams and a lapping tool and just polished everything when I was done. The cams are pretty hard and didn't change in size. Doing ti with the cams lets they turn really free in the heads.

Having a really nice resizing hone lets you "feel" any deformations as you hone the cylinder. Using the hone before the torque plate goes on and then after you bolt it on will let you feel the difference. Some stuff you just can't measure, well you can if you can find it with the dial bore gauge tip, but that is sometimes the needle in a hay stack kinda thing. If it feels straight and round with the hone, the bore gauge will let you know the size.

Same applies to guide honing, the feel is the best part. Once they feel straight and true, measure and see how much more you need to get where you want to be. Makes for some really nice fitting parts.

I just love this stuff.

Not sure why there is oil in the bellhousing.....I don't remember spilling anything..its not around the clutch or flywheel.

Also not sure wft is going on with corrosion everywhere. For sure coolant leaked into here when I was messing with stuff.. and anywhere it touched is corroded, even played stuff. It's like that all over the engine. I used the red coolant for the first time and there is stop leak in it as a just in case....still spot from the fire? I've never seem this?

This is the stuff I hate. Back when I was racing I had my buddy Vic looking over my shoulder or actually doing it to be sure everything was right....left on my own I tend to skip it which leads to bad outcomes.

I kind of like the cam lapping tool idea....might try that.

The GM adapter is hanging up a little on the studs....I'll need to look at that at some point.

What is the GM adapter and what does it do?
Was that a factory part used on 400i's to mate up to a TH400 trans?

Where'd you get your flywheel gear? I'm building a flywheel for a Tilton 7.25" dual disk in the Fiero. For my prototype I bought a aftermarket direct replacement stock flex plate which I will bore to fit over my puck then weld in place. I don't want to spin that thing to 8500 RPM though.

Mmmmmmm... carbon
