Mark:

Dam this has been a long time. You are close, and you've probably debugged this so it will run. You've got a lot more patience than I for sure.

I think the project turned 12 yast month

Got the cylinder mostly finished. The piston goes in but I need to hone about 0.001" more. I forgot what a bother it is...it get stupid hot, which make it want to taper so i final started dunking it in a bucket. When I was doing all 12 I just went done the line an it was cool by the time I got back to it.....but the bucket works too. Finish it up tomorrow I guess.

The bad news is I must have been wearing my rose colored glasses when I did the tear down and decided only #8 needed to be replaced. 9 &11 have rust damage the didn't come close to cleaning up....its down the bore but.....2&3 have rust damage near the top and #1 has a nasty score. They're scrap, well I could get them NSC played but that is about $200 each and I'd need to do all 12 vs new blanks are $100 each.

The others cleaned up pretty well, not perfect but pretty good. The pistons say to set 0.0035" clearance min. That seemed a lot and I set them at 3 originally which in a way is good as it gave me a little meat. They are now at 4 which means it's now NOS safe I think.

Dayum that's a lot of corrosion for 1-2 starts? Almost looks like a flood motor.

That clearance for a forged piston is right, .003 was too tight. .004 will be just fine. Ferrari was covering an engine rebuild years ago and delayed me in tearing it down. Broken valve had cracked a head and coolant was in every cylinder. by the time they agreed and let me take it apart, the coolant had killed every sleeve. It doesn't take long.
