So my wife loves driving her 69 C10 long bed. It has a built 355 small block. Almost every time we are at a car show she will hear something rumble in and ask. " Oooooo, what is that?" Big block is always the answer. So, she has declared that she wants a big block. I found an 87 454. Motor home engine, 47,000 miles, super clean, running. Carb to oil pan, water pump, alternator, fan, exhaust manifolds. $1800. Looks like I need to start running the sim and see what I need to change. I am thinking: cam, intake & carb. I have a number of carbs that will work. Add headers and bam, big block. I will most likely swap it in as is and then think about changing stuff.

I know right. To be fare, it is her daily driver. She loves that truck.
I need to send some specs and see what I can do to make it better. I am thinking cam and intake could be 450hp and 500 trq

There is basically nothing old the Lana loves :o

Let me know what you need sim wise. I'm not using it at the moment so if you want the key that's fine or I can just run whatever you want for you.

Thanks, my wife is thrilled at with the big block. I ran up Saturday and picked it up. 454 motor home unit with the turbo 400, $1960. He gave me $40 to keep the motor mounts that fit his run stand. I didn't want them anyway. It was running on the stand. 60 psi oil pressure, no smoke.
Got it home and fired it up for the wife and she was really happy. It is on the engine stand and I have pulled the cracked iron manifolds and intake. It is a peanut port head but that will be just fine for what we are doing.

Flow number are like this:

lift in ex
.100 56 44
.200 125 90
.300 183 117
.400 215 139
.500 233 158
.600 235 166

More than enough. I am going with an Edelbrock Performer RPM intake. There is a peanut port specific intake by Weiand but I may upgrade one day and don't want to buy another intake. Plus, it looks better.
The stock cam is super small, I think 200 duration @.050 and .400 lift. I haven't degreed it but I might just to see. Summit sells a cheap cam that would wake it up and have some rumble (rumble is big factor with the wife). SUM 1302. 1 3/4 long tube headers. Holley 750 vacuum secondary carb (have it) and it should haul the mail.

It kind of sounds like a done deal so nothing to simulate....that is the beauty of normal engines ;)

Reading the summit description they are suggesting 9.5:1 or higher and a 2500 rpm stall converter but I'm not sure that really jives with 228/238 duration, at least not with stock heads....I'm guessing ti will come in lower and be just what you're after.

I am waffling on the cam. It has a very small cam now and it will be easy to just let it eat. Intake, headers, & carb, stab it in.

So, I ran the numbers on the cam. Stock is 193 duration @ .050, .391 lift at the valve. Yawn. Not gonna work.
As luck would have it a guy posted on market place a Comp Cam and hydraulic lifter set up he didn't want anymore. It is new and is just what I want for a cam. 218/228 @ .050. .510 lift, has a little lope at idle. It is on the way. Now I need to get the valve springs sorted. Cylinders are standard bore and look really good. Pistons are flat with a small dish in the middle. Compression will be low and run on bad gas if needed.
My wife is very excited about the new engine.
