I am planning on making a guide fit with less press so I can do some preliminary machine work and then get the guide out of the way for port work, then slip it in again for flow testing.

That's what I as well, a slip in alum guide, with a little vacuum grease to seal it. I do slip in alum seats too if its something I'm really modifying.

I am almost finished with one cylinder. I have it pretty much shaped, a few details to clean up and the final valve seat finishing. The numbers are really good. Very happy. The chambers should finish at 60cc, so that puts my compression right inline with what I wanted. Max was 9.5:1 and this makes it 9.38:1.

I have all of the seats cut. Time to start grinding for a while. Then flow test again and touch up the final seat cut, set spring heights, and rocker geometry.
I am getting there.

I have been side tracked as well. The guides and seats and porting is 99%. Final touches are needed. I have the engine completely apart. Case is in very good condition. The only surprise was the massive crack between the seats of the right side head. It was not long for the world. Then there is Stella, I have been working on her and she is running great but I have a 350 small block that needs to finished. Flat top, Reed solid roller cam. It has stock heads that need some bowl work and gasket matching to be what they need to be.
Work has me going 10-12 hr days and I am tired. I need more me's.

I am back on the Type 4 build. I have the cylinder shims and I am setting the deck height and figuring out push rod length and rocker geometry. There is some fine tuning to be done to get all the parts to match up. The cam gear slots didn't let the bolts fit. They are slotted and needed to go on the rotary table and get opened up a bit. The oil pump hits the cam bolts, will need to fix that. But that all comes later. Here are a few pictures of the mock up.
