I promise this dramatically changes the driving experience....and its not just the OCD talking.

Keep cleaning and get the shell dug out so the transverse or longitudinal issue can be resolved and that will pretty much tell you what engines you can have.

I've just done another spell of sorting nuts, bolts, brackets and all manner of other workshop detritus. I'd normally be off shooting at this time of night (it's coming up to 10 pm over here), but as there's a gale blowing I have no interest in being out. It's currently lambing season in this part of the world, and as the foxes can cause havoc if not controlled every farmer for miles wants me there. I'm a specialist night-shooter (with thermal and NV), so have a good track record - consequently, I have permission on farms over a vast area. What probably helps is that my shooting partner and I don't charge, although we rarely have to buy eggs, lamb or beef!

As for the OCD thing - believe me, I have it in buckets and spades (so long as they are made of titanium with the correct vanadium content of the right gauge construction with nicely-rounded radii and - oh, look out - here comes nursey with my medications...).

So much information. Here is what I know. If I were asked to build this Dino with a V8, I would seriously look in to a 348 with a 355 transaxle. The extra gear and shaft shifter instead of cable shifter. 348 because 355/360 has a five valve set up and changing the intake cam is a no go. I don't know any cam grinders that grind canted lobes and I really don't want to go down that rabbit hole, so 348 engine. Then is just comes down to fitting it into the frame. I am sure the car needs to be lengthened a bit but that would be worth it I think and still be very Dino like. Maybe even a drop frame like on a 348 to make it easier to assemble and work on. Dry sump so it is low, cooling radiator in the front works. I would also look into big wheels and brakes, gotta stop this thing some how and Dino brakes will not cut it.
It would be a labor of love, one I would enjoy if the right circumstances were there. You have all of the right circumstances to just do it.

there was a stretch 348 running around, it was an enzo prototype or some such. Looked awful but that might have been intentional. I've always been just terrible at imagining what body mods would look like so I'm terrified of the idea of doing them where other I've seen just pull out some Sheetmetal and BAM, beautiful fenders. The3 Dino has so much curve going on I have trouble even imagining a longer version...maybe relocated wheel well by an inch or 2 but even that the the wheel well would not longer sit under the fender curve on top....maybe though.

As in hunting at night? I don't think that's allowed here, dawn to dusk only. Funny on the foxes, I keep talking about putting out food for them because when the foxes are around they clean out the damn rabbits that are everywhere.

Thank you for your valued input - it certainly sounds as though the 348 would be the sensible way to go, but to play Devil's Advocate, surely I could leave the cam alone if I fitted a turbo (or twin turbos) to a 360? I did see an F8 Tributo engine for sale...

I'm not sure that you would need to move the rear axle unless you specifically wanted a longer wheelbase. I need to do so many repairs to the chassis tubes that moving the two diagonals that form part of the firewall forward shouldn't be a big deal. Just need to make sure that I can still get in!

Yes - in total darkness. Having spent quite a lot of time in the USA, it's funny how many people on your side of the pond have been led to believe that we can't own firearms over here, but in reality we're less restricted than you guys in many ways. Here are some examples:

We can own moderators (suppressors), for instance, without massive background checks. They do have to be listed on your firearms certificate (currently, that is - it's a requirement which is under review), but that's it.

There are no limits on the numbers of animals shot, and the seasons are far more generous. One could, for instance, go deer hunting 365 days of the year, with no tickets, inspections, or any other onerous impositions. You just have to know what species/sex is in season - females that may have dependent young, for example, are not allowed.

Things like foxes are completely unrestricted, so long as you have the relevant firearms licence and permission to shoot on the ground in question.

It's true that for the most part we can't own any hand guns or anything fully automatic, but I have a good array of rifles and shotguns from .17HMR through to .308.

Since my shooting partner and I have been working this area, the amount of other wildlife we see has skyrocketed. There are far more hedgehogs, hares, ground-nesting birds, hedge-nesting song birds, and so on. That, for me, is one of the main reasons I do it, although I also like helping the farmers out too - especially as the government is doing a pretty good job through unnecessary regulations and humongous piles of paperwork of squashing them out of financial viability.

Welcome, I look forward to seeing this progress and the choices you make as you go along. You will also notice that we don't get bored easily here - most of us have been on the journey with Mark since the beginning on Fchat back in 07. Along the way we have learned about cars and engines and gearboxes and electric steering and houses and heating and cooling, fire fighting, paving and, a personal favourite, the pizza oven, so you will always have an audience for your ideas!
