Working on adapting the 360 gearbox to a 4L build that uses the F106A block, also known as the 308 series.

Interesting project and a bit unconventional. The 360 gearbox is also the dry sump reservoir for the engine, so a simple adapter plate is not possible. Also since the transverse gearbox is not part of the build it requires a pan and dry sump setup. This is an ongoing project at the moment so I'll post as it moves along.

Cool. I like stuff like that.

Soldworks, switched over from Acad about 8yrs ago. Been using cad for engineering and design for 25yrs now. I found solidworks to better with 3D early on and preferred it, though autodesk acad has improved a lot since then. The FEA and flow add-ins to solidworks is really nice.

I've been toying with doing it the other way round , putting a 360 motor on top a 308 box !! Collected most of the parts , but I can't say I have got very far !! The 360 dry sump pump needs to be moved ( which is the biggest challenge ) Mark came up with a few ideas ??
Yours is an interesting project , are you putting it in a north south 308 install ? Do you have a 360 pan ? I'm sure you could adapt a 360 pump to go in the sump like the 308 dry sump ( just using the scavenge side ) possibly making the plumbing a bit easier .

I'd go with a spacer plate on the 360 engine to 308 gearbox. The skirt is shorter on the 360 so that helps, though it's wider where the pump assy is and that may have clearance issues, haven't really looked at it from that perspective.

Stuffing the 360 drysump into a 308 block would be a real PITA. easier to mount an external scavenge pump and move on. The owner is putting it into a longitudinal build, stretched 308 frame by 4" for this. Not involved on the install or setup of the chassis.

Thought I'd update with pics.. It's been an on/off project waiting for parts/machined bits etc.. Surprisingly the gearbox mated to the engine with little fuss and centered too! no need to adjust or shim to get it concentric.

The Dino V8's all have the same bellhousing pattern.

I've been thinking about a 360 engine (punched out to 4.0 of course) in front of a 355 gearbox. That should fit in a 308 frame without a stretch.

Probably the hardest part would be splining the crank for the input shaft to connect. The clutch is at the back end of those gearboxes. There's also a LOT of parts interchange that would have to happen to have all the seals in the right places and still use a crank sensor.

The bolt pattern of the 308/328 is unique to itself due to sitting atop it's gearbox. Since the Dino line includes the 348/355 & 360 they are not all the same at all. The trick here was getting an adapter plate designed to mate the two and have the crank input shaft centered, oh and act as a block-off plate for rear main seal and oil splash/drain to the sump all the while not being too thick to space things out too far.

Yeah the 355 gearbox is short enough to fit without much trouble, this gearbox requires stretching the frame a good 6". The advantage of the 308 engine is it's narrow compared to the later engines.
