They are pretty. I wonder a little about the welding though. It looks like they roll the rims, forge hubs then see it to the correct offset and weld. That means they are either using a non heat/work hardened alloy or are losing the strength during welding. I assume they've taken all that into account and added enough material so it all works out to get good strength even if it brings a bit more weight.

The bolted versions can use higher strength materials but need to add material for bolt flanges plus the bolts themselves, so I guess there is a weight penalty either way.

They could also T6 the entire wheel without too much fuss.

I guess, but then you might as well just cast the wheels right?

The thing about work hardening is... it's WORK. MUCH easier to spin them out of super plastic aluminum than work hardening aluminum. T6 is probably an improvement in strength, although I don't recall if alloys that can be treated super-plastic can also age harden.

They say the hub is 6061 but don't really say clearly what the rim is.

I just noticed a kind of weird flange on the outer edge of the 5 cutouts....that would have to be removed IMO.

Pondering this a bit the 288 wheels are 3 piece, exposed bolts, center cover......but I keep thinking the most stock 308 they look the better.

I emailed them and asked for a quote and what the rim material is and what of any heat treat is done post welding. No more guessing.

Hubs and rims are 6061 and heat treated BEFORE welding

18"wheels are $1000 each

Yeh....nice light wheels do help ride quality on the street and grip on the track, but its very much a diminishing return game. I mostly just want to get something that looks more 308 like.....but I also need to finish the garage so I can fix the engine and money is flying out pretty fast at the moment.

It's also gotten to where I can't see very well. Glass as on at 3+ feet is fine, glasses off at 6-10" from my face is fine, but notmal working distance not so much fine. I ordered my first bifocals last week, hopefully they will get my vision a little more functional.
