Yup, came to my senses and gave the final no. I saw this kit when I was in HS and really wanted one so this was a difficult no....but no is what it had to be :(

I emailed them and asked for a quote and what the rim material is and what of any heat treat is done post welding. No more guessing.

Hubs and rims are 6061 and heat treated BEFORE welding

18"wheels are $1000 each

Ive had 51857 for 28 yrs,,
a few yrs ago
I passed on set of 360
Challenge wheels ,,new,,
couldn't see $2000
then they were $4k,now $8k
will 458 or 488 wheels fit?

Just for a change of pace.....I've decided I really don't like the 550 wheels on the car and want something that looks a lot more original 308 but 18". I found these that appear to fit the bill if I paint them silver. I like without the bolts so its more 308 original looking but the 288 has bolts so its clearly something the factory did in 1984 or their hotrods, but stock 308 is better I think, I need to find out what exactly is available in the sizes I would want, which is of course a whole other question.......I hate to divert money or attention but when important things are on hold my mind tends to wander.....

I want to lose the 348 seat I installed too so I'm semi on the hunt for a seat of 308 seats in need of so love....in the form of re-doing the form to improve the bolsters and recover to look stock. Yet another project I don't have time of resources for.

I found out the expensive way that these type wheels are never close to round.
superfoomance wheels are really funny out of round on a lathe, very poor roundness
The best wheels by far are oem 16 real mags, they are round, lite and very high quality
360 Challenge oem real mags, thats the upgrade
look great on 308
fronts only fit
I had a set of 355 wheels ,,4 fronts,, fit nice looked nice but heavy looking and heavier than qv oem "Daytona Mags"to mount.

I'd like to see a GP someday....but I quit watching or in any way supporting F1 when they went ahead and raced in Russia just a few weeks after Russia invaded Ukraine. The invasion was timed with the intent that the upcoming car and bike GPs would distract and make it seem normal.
The motorcycle GP was instantly canceled, the F1 guy took the check and continue to take the checks....F1 is dead as far as I'm concerned.

You're probably right. I want to get a little of the 288 feel in the look of the car but certainly dont have actual 288 wheel money to spend....the garage is WAY over budget for both time and money and is impacting all other projects in my world.....probably a other 6-10k more before all thing garage are complete and Lana allows any money to flow anywhere.
