I was on about making a new deck lid and roof years ago...in fchat days I think.....and that is still my preferance to try to get a reasonable power to weight ratio

I need to think about what to do. Body design is not my strength which is why the original plan was to fit under the stock deck lid.....and it will fit with stacks tuned to the 3rd harmonic which is the normal way to tune them....about 12" valve to stack top.

Dynomation says I can do better on this engine tuning to the 2nd harmonic which is about 17" valeve to stack top and that will be out of the lid by 4-5" and look very cool wiht a polycarb bubble forming the top of the air box.....or maybe also shaker style wiht the airbox mounted to the engine and just cut through to deck lid.

Ineed to think about it......I will need to by some paint so spraying the deck lid at the same time is pretty straight forward...once I have a deck lid Iwant ot paint.

My two cents on the matter of deck lid modification is that part of the remarkable thing you've done is shoehorn in such a huge engine into such a small space. To me, modifying the deck lid would be conceding that the engine can't fit in.

Do you need that last bit of power? You will already be on traction control up to Mach 2.

Formula GT has a fiberglass decklid ready for modification, not exactly cheap but does save on weight and cutting up the OEM one. or a for a bit more they have one with a bigger 'hump' for intake clearances they say.

The longer stacks actually make less peak hp but pull up the middle to upper mid range and force the power to nose over at about 8800 rather than keep pulling past 9600

That said.....I agree with you which is why I'm so torn about what I should do.

For sure the factory bubble in the deck lid doesn't make a lot of sense with this engine and serves no useful purpose...it's in the wrong place (I moved the engine forward) and too narrow. My first thought was stay about stock looking but fix the width and location and add additional vents.....I don't know.

On the deck lid, something like the F40 would look cool.

Polycarbonate is your friend.

I agree with Brian, don't modify the deck lid. It will look like a "riced" 308 if modified.

Re the paint on the rear, have your tried cutting and polishing? Looks like smoke damage in the photos.

Re insurance for car, mate don't go down that path. Just bite the bullet and pay for any fixes, otherwise the car will have to go to some panel beater/painter and they won't be able to deal with your modifications. You'd be stepping into a black hole of misery.

Right, we don't want it to look "riced"....but I also agree with some of the others that seeing the sacks has quite a bit of appeal. I'm leaning toward reshaping and relocating the bulge to to match the engine that is in the car like the factory would certainly have done.....but I might be able to make the bulge a bolt-on so I could in theory have normal and race mode. We'll see......1st it's gone to run right so I have some time to think about this.

The paint is blistered, it has to be re-done and the tail lights are torched along with a few other things. Its just the back, I'll probably spray it myself like I did the last time the car set itself on fire which BTW is what started the whole "time to modify" thing 16 years ago so it's now come full circle. The insurance company will write me a check, I do not need to use their shop or even ever fix the damage or cold fix it myself and put the surplus toward the new garage or maybe toward a full repaint...or a new deck lid. My neighbor is a good body guy and I'm sure would pop over to to make sure I do the prep right then give me a fair price for the final spray at his shop. Lots of options.

Maybe. Ot would be 1 larger box on my engine as the TBs are smashed together in the middle....but something like along that idea would work.

We are still cleaning so i don't see car time this weekend....may next week.
