Way back when this first went together the bearings clearances measured loose so I sent them out to be coated which got things closer to spec. After a chat with Wade I think the plan this time is to get the undersize bearings and measure the installed bores, then grind the crank to match....so -.010 under rods and mains are ordered along with a couple replacement rods.

Wade talked me into hunting down a set of total seal gapless 2nd rings. I had those in the 308 engine but didn't think of it on the V12....sent a quote request to total seal.

They gave me the part number for the fullset, jegs had the best price I could find for that part number, at $35.58 per cylinder in sets of 4 so new rings ordered. Now To see if I can return what JE send me and get that $259 back so Lana isn't AS angry.

Edit. Total seal just told me they could convert my JE 2nd rings for $130 (10 per set plas 10 per ring) which is a few $$ cheaper than the buy new and return old path but I think I feel better about using the total seal stuff....I honestly have no idea what JE sent me.

Wade also talked me into buying Quick seat dry lube to help seat the rings quickly. I had a buddy that used to dry install new rings, this seems like a refinement to that process.

Kidding but I'd bet you're right or really close on how its intended to work

In other news I'm pondering coating the piston skirts if the piston to wall goes much over .003" after I clean up the scratches.....the gapless rings will seal almost anything but I don't want the pistons rocking and I had good luck with skirt coating on my racebike for this purpose years ago and would be willing to try again.

I seem to be getting a lot of the blame here. Lana is gonna hate me and that scares me a little. :?
