I should have thought of the funnel earlier, since you've been talking about pistons for a few days now.

Its not your fault I'm ignorant...or at least was or this subject before you educated me. This repair/rebuild has brought me quite a lot of re-education.

I'm still pretty jealous of the pics of an engine stand that appear to have a crank to rotate the engine vs the brute force mine requires...with just a block on my stand its fine but Id kind of forgotten how heavy this thing is once the parts start going on :o

I think this is the one I have: https://www.jegs.com/i/JEGS/555/80059/10002/-1

They were deeply discounted on sale a couple years back and my dad and I bought two. The gearbox is chinesium, and needs clearance & keyway optimization, but it mostly works.

I was thinking when looking at your photos that turning that thing over must be super fun. I have to attach the Northstar to the stand with the pivot axis as far above the crank axis as workable in order to minimize turnover effort, and it's still top-heavy.

Here is what it looks like when you hang a Ferrari V12 on a Chinese 1000lb capacity engine stand  The stand I'm using is 2 of these welded together and at least seems safe and allows the 308 trans (minus the diff) to also be installed.....as long as I'm willing to rotate it with the engine crane.

My old engine stand looked like that when we put a 500cid Cadillac engine on it... The yellow one in the Northstar photos does not sag perceptibly, but the flange the mounting arms bolt to is literally twice as thick as the cheap stand.

While it has an iron block and iron heads, the 500cid Cadillac is actually lighter than a big block Chevy thanks to better casting techniques with less core shift allowing for thinner material sections.

FrankenFiat? Looks like your stitched it together from enough pieces.

My dad has a Caddy 500 in a '90 Suburban using an LT1 OptiSpark trigger wheel surgeried into the base of a large cap HEI distributor. It's backed up by a 4L80E trans and the 14bff with 3.21 gears from his prior '79 Suburban with 454 & TH400... He also converted the 14bff to modern disk brakes.

Well its not like a bigblock Cadillac engine actually fits in a fiat engine bay...it required some rework, just a terrible idea

I'm see tipping over the Lincoln V12 block and wishing it become...something and that thing is firkin heavy so I'll need a stand solution for that at some point. I know this is a total aside as I'm finally pushing the ferrari forward again but I was looking at cheap 26/27 roadster shell for $1000 figuring less body to make up for that pig of an engine and the kids are saying they want nothing to do with ridign in a rumble seat so no need to have that either. The plan was tube frame and no doors anyway..,.but first the ferrari.

But wait! There's more!

....not much but I did put the clay on the pistons and slap the heads on temporarily. Tomorrow or the next day I should have clearance results and know if I'm going forward with the build or tearing it back down
