I think its time for a new chapter as I start thinking about getting back into this so part 4.
part 3 is here:
viewtopic.php?f=2&t=8

Just a quick recap is the engine was running but most likely dropped a valve seat and needs to come out for repair. Last night I decided to test a couple new things in the ECU before I start disconnecting stuff and can't test.

My first discovery was the battery was deader than dead, something has been pulling power I guess so hopefully the battery will charge...it was pulling nothing when I first hooked up the charger which isn't a good sign but was pulling by the time I finished ECU work so maybe....

So the boring stuff was install the latest firmware into the ECU...which took me a little while to figure out as the PC software has changed and I wasn't sure how to use it exactly...but I got.

Next new model into the ECU....there are a lot of small changes in the new model but the stuff I wanted to test is related to throttle control. I was using a PID controller but though adding a feed-forward component might improve it a bit by dealing with the effects of the return springs by giving the PID a starting point...like a rough openloop control so pedal goes to x position, ecu output goes to y and the throttle snaps to Z before being fine tuned by the PID. Turns out I was wrong. The throttle does close by spring force but slowly due to gear friction in the actuator and all that friction meant there really is nothing like a correlation between ECU output and throttle position. Oh well, its still a nice added feature even if it doesn't help with my specific setup.

The other thing I did was get some throttle safety stuff working. There are 2 sensors on the pedal and 2 on the throttle and now they have to agree wiht each other and agree the throttle is where its supposed to be for the throttle closes. This seemed to be working....need to test a bit more but certainly better than the nothing I had.

Its still a week or 2 before I can start the engine pull.....but its coming.

Below is picture proof I was out working on the car and a graph of output. Green is the ECU output, red is the throttle position....you can see they don't follow eachother. Lt blue is sitting at a value of 1 through it all meaning a position error has been detected and the system is in error mode.

Exciting that you're back to work on the car. I'm looking forward to following your progress.

A little bit of oil in a bunch of places....i guess the fact that it even tries to stay in after all i put it though is a win....bit no leaks would be best....

A couple problems. I didn't really include a function way to drain the oil....I'll nee to add an extension to the drain.

It looks like a little bit of coolant came out....and I certainly didn't drain 12 quarts...time to go find the oil
