Sorry that is looking so good that you can't use threaded rod as the studs you have to make proper ones, or make some tubes that can slip over the long threaded part :).
Pete

Or remove the unneeded center threads to make it as light as possible! :)

I added bosses to the pump tonight. I had planned to make bolt-on adapters but since I had to cut the points in a bad direction outlet off and install a boss there anyway I figured might as well make them all match. Then a good scrub for all the parts so it's officially back to ready to assemble.

I got a box from GT parts today with everything I need to install the timing cover so that's ready to roll too. They sent the wrong nut for the drop gear side but I have time to get the replaced before I need it.

I also got to pondering my brakes a bit today. I'm pretty sure with the cams I have it's hopeless to even think about power brakes but i don't want to spend a ton of time on that right now so I just ordered a 25mm bore fiat master cylinder that should be a direct bolt-on to replace the 22mm stock unit which is probably way too small to work with the much larger piston size F430 calibers. This combo should give me enough volume and like 30% more mechanical advantage over-all so I'm thinking it will be just about right and a good place to start.

Thanks!

Now I just need to figure out how to install it....I think I need to do a dry fit so I know what I'm doing when I have sealant painted on everything.

Yesterday I got the 2 idler gears installed in the timing case and found the pump tensioner...I realized I couldn't even remember the last time I saw the tensioner and thought I might need to hunt up a new one, but I found it.

I'm think tonight I'll get the engine back out of the car and get the studs all figured out so it's ready to go then plan the install for Saturday so I have a full day in case.....

Once the timing case is on and the cams degreed I think the engine itself is done so this shold be a big weekend. Hard to believe but I think that's where I am.

Next was move on to the timing case dry fit.

hmmmm....the pump drive chain has to go on before the timing intermediate shaft. Ok....Doh! the stud stripped on re-torque. That's the first one so not too bad and a helicoil sorted it in sort order.

Now assembling. Doh! this should have been done BEFORE the oil pan was on but after playing with it I guess it's just possible to do with the pan on. The trick is the sprockets need to sit in the chain then slide the cover on as you slip the shafts into the sprockets and there's about 3/4" to make it all happen and then get the nuts and cotter pins in.....but it's possible. Ready for the real assembly attempt I think

So after going way over estimate on the head install I re did the assembly times in my plan and budgeted 20 hour to install the timing cover.....I'm now at 22 hours and it's not installed and cams not timed so at least 10 hours left I'd say. I suck at estimating time it seems.

with the engine basically done I had a quick look at the project budget....I think there is still $4k-$6k in spending left just to get to a runs and drive condition. So I suck at estimating costs too.

But it's almost done......

Budgets are a mere guide line to overspending so consider that if you are not at least 50% over budget you are considered a stickler for detail.

.........are we done yet?
