This race car raced 9 seasons pulling 2Gs in the turns using 308 wheel carries and bearings with 4340 stub axles...so it seems a well design axle has no issues.

I emailed Strange engineering to see if they are interested in making 208 axles or interested in partially finished non-hardened axles to at least save me the annealing step.

I'm curious - is there any chance that the issues with the existing 308 stub axles could be mitigated by doing stuff like sleeving, spray-welding and machining a radius, heat or cryo treating, etc?

I guess the risk is that you do all of that to a 40mm setup that lasts 50% longer than the OEM unit but still fails and you've done more work than just going to the 45...

Sooo pretty

...and come with some pretty interesting instructions like start the engine without coolant and let the heads come to 40-50C. Then water only to full temp. Then coolant. We shall see! (once I free of house work)

Not holding out. Just a car that arrived with a blown head gasket and twin turbos. It blew a head gasket previously with the shop that did the turbo work. They fixed it but it did it again. The studs were crap and the washers were wedged into there seats. Washers were too big for the counter bore. New studs and washers, cut down to fit. New thicker custom head gaskets. Hope it holds.

I have a second 360 NA with a blown head gasket as well. Haven't taken it apart yet. Still a ton of big project jobs to get through.

Here's hoping that those gaskets work as good as they look!

Heres hoping. I haven't had any seepage with Murrey head gaskets, but I don't have what you have. Well, okay, nobody does.
