They make good stuff and these were catalog items (blanks), the problem was old stock kicking around the country and KW having no idea it was out there....and getting someone on the phone who could sort out the issue.

They do make good stuff, but from an engineering collaborative effort... well.. that was a like pulling teeth. Look I get that we do onesies and twosies and maybe some small run stuff but to be rude and completely unhelpful to a not just a customer but another business looking to work with you?? I've got better things to do with my time then chase after people like that.[/quote]

No, there is no excuse to be rude. If they didn't want the work they should have just said so. I was effectively dealing with the same thing in that they only wanted to talk to the deal and when he finally send them my parts the first response to him was the old and new are identical, they checked on the laser blah blah...when I spoke to them and he explained that I said "the whole valve including the chamber face? Silence for a moment then " I never looked at them. I had them open the box and check the profile and send me the result. I'll go in to the office and check them myself and call you back" From there is was a conversation about making it right for both parties, he had the revision history I'd asked the dealer for 3 or 4 times and they sorted out the issue.

The father started the business, the son now runs it and does seem to know what he's doing and seemed a nice guy. The father was a racer, I'm not so sure the son ever was, just the sense I got but made I'm wrong. It just seems to be a matter of getting "in" past the layers designed to keeep the average idiot out....once you're in they make good stuff.

So last night aft I finished head 1 Lana asked what I did (trying to be nice) and I told here valve, assemble, check, all pretty good. 1 cylinder leaked more than the others but not too bad. So she asked if I fixed it.....I said it'll seat in and get better once its running blah blah......so this morning I fixed it.

The problem was the intakes were tweeked and the faces running out .0030". At .0005" they seat perfect, at .0010" they seat ok, at .0030" they leak. This is really what was wrong, along with exhaust seats that had moved during porting. As part of the lapping I checked and straightened the valves but these 2 somehow snuck through....now they're fixed.

Now on to head 2...which is actually head 1.

Thanks, Merry Christmas to you and your as well.

Heads back and the leak-down is 4-11%, all past the pistons. That's a good result I think. I'll let it sit for a couple days to do holiday family stuff then I'll re-torque the heads and try to get the timing cover on and cams in.

Exhaust is hard Reg

What all is left on your car and what are you holding on me for to get it running...just a cam trigger? (you know it will run fine without that and you can make the upgrade when you have the part ;) )

How effective is retorquing without thermal cycles?

The last time, with these type gaskets it needed something like 1/4 turn after 24 hours then was good......at least good cold. I have no experience with thermal cycles on this engine yet

Edit: I just checked them (at about 14 hours) and it was much less than the 1/4 turn I was remembering.....1/16 maybe. I'll give it a couple days because I have no choice in the matter and check again before starting the timing cover.

Mark, was that a radial runout (perpendicular to the valve stem) or an axial runout? I'm assuming you're measuring the outer edge of the face?

Wonder what would happen with guide wear????
